SCAEYC Executive Director

Who we are

The South Carolina Association for the Education of Young Children, headquartered in Columbia, hereby known as SCAEYC, is a statewide professional organization whose mission is to improve early care and education and to support parents of young children.  SCAEYC is a state affiliate of the national Association for the Education Young Children, also know as NAEYC.

 Scope of Work

  • Purpose

            It is the intent of the SCAEYC State Affiliate Board to solicit responses for a part-time consultant position of Executive Director to provide guidance and assistance to implement the SCAYEC Strategic plan.  Consultants must be able to provide expertise, direction and assistance o the Board in the implementation of the Strategic Plan to ensure that SCAEYC remains a high performing, inclusive organization.  This person will be expected to work with the Board to develop a detailed plan of operation to structure and organize our office and ensure compliance with SCAEYC and NAEYC legislation, policies and procedures.  The consultant must work with the Board to ensure that services are implemented in a timely manner.

  • Job Description

     The Executive Director shall work with the Board to comply with and perform the following:

1.                  Provide monthly written status reports to the Executive Board regarding on-going work as outlined in this job description.

2.                  Attend all bi-monthly meetings of the Board of Directors.  Present status report on all business functions and recommendations for further action.

3.                  Oversee and coordinate all functions related to the annual fall conference.

4.                  Manage and daily financial activities of the organization.

5.                  Develop and implement systems and processes to establish and maintain records of the organization.

6.                  Serve as a representative for SCAEYC at state and local meetings, legislative hearings, and conferences as requested by the Board.

7.                  Develop fund raising strategies to support the work of the organization

8.                  Serve as a liaison between SCAEYC and NAEYC and provide information to the Board regarding NAEYC initiatives and directives.

9.                  Develop strategies to strengthen local cluster/chapter membership, leadership and participation in the organization.

10.              Service as contact representative for the organization.

11.              Perform other duties as requested by the Board.

 Compensation and Agreement Period

            Consultants wishing to be considered must submit a current resume and cover letter outlining their qualifications and interest.  Three letters of recommendation as to character, professional knowledge and experience in sealed, signed envelopes should be included.  Please include the daytime phone numbers for references. 

1.                  A minimum of a Bachelors Degree in Early Childhood Education or related field with at least three years of professional experience in the areas of education, public policy or human service.

2.                  Familiarity with basic computer functions and web site design.

3.                  Experience with conference planning, fund raising, grant writing, financial management, political advocacy and program management preferred.

4.                  Knowledge of and membership in NAEYC or SCAEYC is desired.
